Blog, Blogger, Blogspehre. What is all that? The word blog is a combination of two words “web” and “log”. Originally blogs were essentially an online diary where people could keep a log of their daily lives or routines. Now such web diaries quickly morphed into an essential place for information and updates, and as such become a reputable source of information not only for individuals but also businesses. In other words, blogs have become regularly updated websites that provide essential insights into certain topics. In the other words, blogs are sort of online journals that are updated frequently, sometimes even daily. An update, (also called an entry or a post) could be either long or quite short, perhaps just a few sentences, and readers can often respond to an entry online. I’m definitely not planning to write a big and official guide-to-cover-it-all. The purpose of this blog entry is to touch upon some major bullet points and help readers like yourself to sort through of pros and cons of starting up a blog of your own
Is there a difference between a Blog and a Website? A blog often deals with a specific topic and is updated with regular posts mostly in the form of articles. Websites are divided into inner explanatory pages, each with varying purposes. This can be anything from an FAQ page to a welcoming homepage design. Such pages are only updated every once in a while, making a website more static than a blog. Some websites have internal blogs, while other websites are composed entirely as blogs without any additional pages. Don't get confused? Let’s get to the bottom of this. When blogs are a section of a larger website, such a parent-website usually provides the bulk of the supplemental information, and simply uses a blog feature to keep users updated and engaged with whatever the main subject such a website is dedicated to. An example of such will be a store that also offers a blog about their various products and how to use them. Another type of website are those where blogs make up the entire content. Such websites don’t have any inventory to sell and usually are either informative or engaging otherwise, like f.e. Podcasts, membership sites, etc., or even more engaging opportunities, like forums, where people can ask questions, comment, and engage with each other. Successful blogs or forums can be monetized and make a certain income and that would depend upon choocing of relevant niche superb-relevant content.
Blogging is so attractive for businesses because it provides a simple way to keep customers or clients up-to-date. Successful blogs are being updated regularly, and that enables brands and businesses to share company changes, inform users about deals and provide the best tips possible on using their products, and so on. Blogs provide unlimited opportunities on a variety of content, and that is a unique opportunity to draw your audience to your brand by forming the basis of an important marketing methodology called inbound marketing.
Let’s say you sell fragrances, and typically your site mainly consists of the various bottles and brand names you offer. Logically, anyone looking to buy fragrances will be able to find what they need on your site. But, if you come up with relevant blog content ideas with posts about say, “The best fragrances for the summer” then even people who aren’t explicitly looking to buy perfumes might reach your site. Now people who usually buy their colognes or perfumes elsewhere, can gain something from your website and get acquainted with your brand. By driving more traffic to their site, businesses essentially self-advertise, allowing more people to remember their site the next time they are looking to buy fragrances.
Since blogs are essentially platforms for varying needs, mastering their craft b became quite essential for business and for individuals. For a business entity, a blog is an excellent way to establish your expertise in a given field. Once you include practical information and guides and update them regularly, you prove a pivotal position in your industry and may even become an expert. When you present yourself as an authority in your line of work, you’ll be able to grow your name and become a true leader in your field. Blogging as an expert can also open the door for potential monetization and the ability to turn your blog into a career.
For individuals, on the other hand, blogs can be a perfect way to share updates with friends and family. For example, if you're traveling somewhere exotic and want to share photos and info about your trip destination with a number of readers, you can direct them all to a centralized blog. A strategically written and well-developed Blog can be the solution for any experience that you can think of that you might want to share with any audience, whether it is business-related or not.
